Pest control assessment criteria: inspection with checklist

Assessment Criteria: How the Jury Decides

The jury assesses every pest controller on three criteria with a fixed weighting. That way you know exactly why a company receives Gold, Silver or Bronze, and what to look for yourself when choosing a pest control company near you.

40%

Online reviews

Reviews show how customers experience a pest controller in practice. We look at the average Google rating and at the number of reviews, because a 4.9 based on three reviews says less than a 4.7 based on two hundred. Recent reviews carry more weight than old ones. We look for patterns: does the pest controller turn up on time, explain what they are doing, and is the problem genuinely solved after treatment? Reviews that appear fake or purchased are not counted.

35%

Certificates and accreditations

Professional pest control requires knowledge and the right credentials. We check whether a company holds the EVM certificate of competence, whether it works according to the IPM approach and whether it is affiliated with a recognised quality mark such as the KAD-keurmerk, the KPMB quality mark (Keurmerk Plaagdiermanagement Bedrijven) or CPMV. We also check whether a company demonstrably complies with the Dutch Plant Protection Products and Biocides Act. The more independent certifications a pest controller can show, the higher the score on this criterion.

25%

Years of experience

Experience is no guarantee of quality, but a pest controller who has been active for years has usually seen more types of infestation and knows better what works in practice. We look at the number of years a company has traded under the same name, based on its Chamber of Commerce registration and its own website. If the founding year cannot be established, it is shown as 'unknown' and the company receives a neutral score on this criterion rather than a low one.

How the ranking is compiled

1

Data collection

We collect publicly available data on pest controllers in 40 cities: Google Maps listings and reviews, company websites, certification registers and the Chamber of Commerce register.

2

Verification

We check that the data is correct and current: does the company still exist, is it active in the city, are its certificates valid and do the reviews belong to the right branch?

3

Jury assessment

The independent jury reviews the preliminary ranking, scores every company on the three criteria and decides the final top 3 for each city and the national top 5.

4

Publication and updates

On 7 November 2026 we publish the final results. In the meantime, we update the data whenever a company reports a correction that we can verify.

The rankings on this site are preliminary until 7 November 2026 and are based on publicly available data. Are the details about your company incorrect or out of date? E-mail [email protected] and we will check your report and correct the data.
